Marc Theis was born in Luxembourg in 1953.
He spent part of his childhood in Metz in France, eventually returning to Luxembourg to study decoration and typography at the technical college in Luxembourg city. Following his graduation in 1971, Marc Theis went to Stuttgart where he attended the Adolf Lazi School of Photography. Afterwards he went on to study advertising art at the State Academy of Art and Design. At the age of 23, Marc Theis came to Hanover where he initially worked as a photographer at the medical college. In 1979 he graduated with a degree in graphic design in Hanover and worked for five years in the advertising department of the TUI travel company. Since 1983 Marc Theis has been based in Hanover working as a freelance photographer.

Marc Theis has won a number of prizes and awards, among them the gold medal in the international Nikon contest. 1994 Award: „Chevalier de l´Ordre de Mérite du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg“. He has published seven of his own illustrated books and 16 photo calendars. His work has gone on show both in Germany and abroad. His projects form a series of analogue photographic works from around the world in the context of the 21st century.

A citizen of the world
Luxembourg-born Marc Theis lives in Hanover, but likes to reinvigorate himself with trips to Sweden. He’s married with three daughters. He loves Italian food, enjoys travelling and is also a huge fan of music and sports.
